Traveling within Sapa: Sapa is a small town and you can do
anywhere on foot. You are also not likely to get lost. You can
equip yourself with a simple map in case you are doubtful.
Trekkers should come armed with good shoes, rubber boots,
and a stout walking stick. It is also a good idea to carry clothes
in a waterproof bag. Remember, the rice fields can be muddy
and you need to be cautious while crossing these.
The altitude can prove to be quite a challenge even to the
physically fit and hardy, especially when climbing steep
mountain slopes. Some tourists rent a bike, but this can end up
being an adventure sport, since you face hazards from others
on the road, and at times from the road itself, because of
landslides or washed-out parts. This is especially true during
the rainy season.
