It’s ten minutes from my house to school. I go past the newsagent’s and the bookshop and walk towards the river. There’s a bridge over the river. My school is over the bridge and behind the swimming pool. At the weekends, I go to the beach with my family. In summer, we go camping. I love camping. Sometimes we stay on the campsite all day. Sometimes we go on day trips. We visit castles, museums and parks. My favourite trip is to the National Park near the campsite. There is a big lake in the middle of the park and you can see lots of beautiful birds. I love watching the ducks. In the evening, we sometimes watch otters swimming in the lake. Last year, we saw an otter and her family. We watched the baby otters play in the water for two hours. It was dark when we went back to the camp site. 1 Rowena’s school is near the sea. 2 Rowena has to cross a river to get to school. 3 In Summer, they go to the beach. 4 The campsite is in the National Park. 5 There are ducks in the National Park. 6 The baby otters swam for two hours. © Pearson Education Ltd. 2012 A01_ISLA_TB_ESP_0934_PREL.indd 3 Placement • Reading 3 31/05/2012 14:39 Placement 1 Writing Write the questions. 1 2 He’s one metre long. 3 I missed the plane yesterday. 4 No, I haven’t done it today. 5 I’ll go to the Science Museum. 6 2 It’s sixty kilogrammes. Then write True (T) or False (F). Last weekend, I went to a wildlife park with my granny and grandad. It was amazing! In the middle of the park, we saw some wild animals. We saw a rhino and a cheetah. We watched the cheetah run. It’s the fastest animal on land. It’s much faster than the rhino. In the wild, rhinos and cheetahs can be found in Africa. It’s hot in Africa. It’s much hotter than England. There were animals from England in the park, too. My favourite animal is the river otter. They are much smaller than cheetahs and rhinos, and they can’t usually be seen in the day. Otters like to swim in rivers in the evening, when it is a little darker. Grandad sat next to me by the river and we watched. We watched the river for forty-five minutes and then … yes! We saw an otter! Wow! It had a small head and very small ears and it was swimming very near to us. River otters aren’t very big. They are between forty to ninety centimetres. And they are nighttime animals. But on sunny days, they often like to sit on rocks in the river or next to the river. What a great day! 1 The biggest animals were in the middle of the wildlife park. 2 Cheetahs are the fastest animals on land. 3 England is colder than Africa. 4 Otters are bigger than cheetahs and rhinos. 5 Otters like to swim during the day. 6 Otters like sunny days. 2 Read.
