Anticipated problems Ss may need to be provided vocabulary related to school education system so that they can complete various learning tasks. IV. Procedure Time Teacher’s activities 4’ 1 Warm up: Jumbled words - Writes the words whose letter are in a random order on the board. - Devide the class into two teams. Ss from two teams go to the board and write the correct words. - The team which writes correct words first will be the winner. 1. OOCLHS 2. ACUDNOITE 3. SSYTME Lets Ss guess the phrase of words above. SCHOOL EDUCATION SYSTEM 5’ 2. Pre- Reading. - T introduces the topic of the lesson... T asks ss to discuss some questions on page 44. While – Reading. Objectives To help Ss to get some knowledge of the education system. To introduce some useful structures related to the topic Vocabulary: nursery school, kindergarten, primary school, lower secondary II. MATERIALS Pictures, English textbook 12 III. Anticipated problems Ss may not have enough vocabulary to talk about the topic, so T should be ready to provide help. IV. Procedure Time 3’ 7’ 10’ Teacher’s activities 1. Warm up: -T gets Ss to play the game “clap the board “ - T puts some words they learned from the previous lessons on the board. Two representatives of the two teams come up to the board, listen to the teacher giving the words’ definitions and clap the correct word on the board. The team that gets more correct words will win the game ( the words suggested: (curriculumn, core , tuition fees, state school, primary education, secondary education…). - T leads to the lesson 2. Pre –speaking - Introduces new words + nursery school (n) + kindergarten (n) + primary school (n) + lower secondary school + upper secondary school - Checks understanding.ROR 3. Task 2 Talking about the school education system in Vietnam. There are three levels of education in Vietnam – pre-school, primary education and secondary education. Children often go to pre-school when they are one year old which is optional. Primary and lower secondary school education are compulsory in Vietnam . Children start to go to primary school at the age of eleven. Children stay in lower secondary school until the age of fourteen when they finish lower secondary school and then they have 4. Objectives To help Ss listen to the conversation between jenny and Gavin talking about What they do at school. To introduce some new words relating to the topic. II. Materials Pictures ,textbook.... III. Anticipated problems Ss may not have sufficent vocabulary to talk about the topic, so T should be ready to assist them. IV. Procedure Time 5’ 10’ 10’ Teacher’s activities 1. Warm up: - T asks Ss to look at the sentences in their books Asks Ss to work in pairs ,studying and answering the following questions: + What school subjects are you good at ? + Which ones do you enjoy most / least in your class ? explain why? - T leads in the new lesson: Today you will listen to the conversation between Jenny and Gavin talking about what they do at school. 2. Pre- listening. - T introduces some new words: + tearaway (n) + disruptive (a) + methodical (a) + well – behaved (a) + struggle (n) - T helps Ss to pronouce the words 3. Anticipated problems Ss may not have sufficent linguishtic resources to write some expressions, so T should be ready to help them. IV. Procedure Time 3’ 7’ 15’ Teacher’s activities 1. Warm up - Ask students some questions about school education systems in Vietnam. 1. How many levels of educations are there in your school system? 2. How long does it take to complete each level? 3. How many classes are there in each level? 4. The children start Grade/ Year 1 at the age of 6 and they normally complete the primary education at the age of 10. They move to lower secondary school to study in Grade 6 when they are eleven years old. They will finish nine-year compulsory education when they complete Grade 9 at the age of 14. The children may go to upper secondary schools if they pass all the subjects tested at the end of Grade 9. They will stay there until they complete Grade 12 at the age of 17. If they want to sit for the entrance exam to universities or colleges they have to take the national examination for GCSE which takes place at the end of Mayor beginning of June. The academic year in Vietnam runs from September to May and is divided into two terms.
