Adverb of manner - Trạng ngữ chỉ cách thức 1.Định nghĩa: Trạng ngữ chỉ cách thức nói cho chúng ta biết sự việc xảy ra như thế nào (trả lời cho: "How") VD: The film ended very abruptly. (Bộ phim kết thúc quá bất ngờ.) (Trả lời cho câu hỏi " How did the film end?" "So abruptly") He swims fast. (Anh ấy bơi nhanh) (Trả lời câu hỏi: "How does he swim?" "Fast") 2. Hình thức cấu tạo từ: Trạng ngữ chỉ cách thức được tạo thành bằng các cách sau: a.Adjective + -ly Bad + -ly= badly ; Quiet + -ly= Quietly ; Recent + -ly= Recently ;.... Tuy nhiên có một số thay đổi với các tính từ kết thúc bằng "-y" (bỏ đuôi "-y" thêm "ily"), "-e" (bỏ "-e" thêm "-ly"): Easy+ -ly=easily ; gentle+ -ly=gently. b.Tính từ kết thúc bằng "-ly" dùng trong cụm " in a...way/manner" (theo một cách....) thể hiện cách thức. Silly (ngớ ngẩn,khờ khạo) He behaved in a silly way. (Hắn hành động theo một cách ngớ ngẩn.) (How did he behave? Silly) Friendly (Adj: thân thiện) She spoke in a friendly way (Cô ấy nói theo một cách thân thiện) (How did she speak? Friendly) c. Một số trạng từ có hình thức giống như tính từ. They all worked hard. (Tất cả họ đều làm việc vất vả.) Các trạng từ tương tự: fast, deep, early, high, late, long, low, near, right, straight, wrong. 3. Vị trí của trạng ngữ chỉ cách thức: a.Thường gặp nhất là sau động từ chính. We ask permission politely. (Chúng tôi hỏi xin phép một cách lịch sự.) b.Đứng trước động từ, nhằm nhấn mạnh trạng từ. She calmly announced that she had fallen in love with someone else. (Cô ấy bình tĩnh thông báo rằng cô ấy đã yêu.) c.Tuy nhiên một số trạng ngữ luôn luôn đi sau động từ. Bao gồm: Well, badly, hard, fast. The team played badly. (Đội chơi rất tệ.) d.Đứng đầu câu: gây sự chú ý, tò mò của người đọc. Slowly,carefully, she opened the box.
