Date19/8 /2009 Period 1: ******* lesson 1: review - present simple tense. - past simple tense. *Aim : Further practice with Simple Present tense and Simple Past tense *Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: – use simple present tense and simple past tense. *Language focus: - Grammar / Structure: Simple Present tense and Simple past tense. - Vocabulary:review *Teaching aids : Text book, cards *Teaching procedure: Stage Teaching procedure Warm up Shark attack. - Cut out and a schoolgirl from card. - Draw some steps then stick the cut out girl on the top of the steps,the sea is around the steps and the shark is in the sea. - Draw 10 gaps for the word Simple Past - Get Ss in teams (or ask them as a whole class) to guess the letters of the word.If their guess is right,they will get one mark.If their guess is not right,the girl has to step down. ______ ____ (Simple Past) -------------------------- Presentation 1.Simple present tense. Form: S + V(s/es) Usage: Simple present tense is used to express a habit in the present time. Ex: I always go to school by bike. Note : Verb form of the third person singular. a. Verbs ending in : - ch, - sh, - s, - ss , - tch , - x, - z , -zz, - o ,we add es to form the third person singular. Ex: kiss kisses go goes watch watches mix mixes b. Verbs ending in “y” followes a consonant we change the “y” in to “i” and add es. Interaction T S–S T – Ss study studies try tries But verbs ending in “y” following a vowel obey the usual rule. Ex: obey obeys say says play plays 2.Simple past tense. Form : S + Ved/PI Usage : Simple past tense is used to express an action,which happens and finishes in the past. Ex: Yesterday, I went to the library. Note:Verb form of simplepast tense. T – Ss Regular Verbs. We add “ed” after that verb. Ex: like liked love loved study studied Irregular Verbs: go went take took say said Verb form of the Regular Verbs. - Verbs ending in “e” we only add “d” Ex: live – lived - Verbs ending in “y” followes a consonant we change the “y” in to “i” and add ed. Pre teach vocabulary - to seem (v) (translation) - a next door neighbor (n)(explanation) a person who lives next to your house. - to look like (v) * Checking Vocabulary: Rub out and remember. - Rub out the new words one at a time - Each time you rub out an English word , point to the Vietnamese translation and ask “What is this in English?” - When all the words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get Ss to call the English words . - If there is time , get Ss to come to the board and write the English words again. II.Pre- question. - Ask Ss to look at picture on p 10. - Give Ss some questions and ask them to work in pairs to answer them. a. Is Nien Lan’s friend or Hoa’s friend? b. How old is Nien? c.Where does Nien live? d.Is she a beautifuf girl? - Give feedback. While Reading Post reading - Ask Ss to read the dialogue between Hoa, Lan and Nien on page 10 and check is they are correct or not . I. Comprehention question: - Ask Ss to read the dialogue again and answer the questions in exercise 2 on page 11 (work in pairs) - Call on some Ss to ask and answer the questions. - Correct the mistakes or pronunciation - Ask them to work in closed pairs. Practice Speaking. - Show the poster of six people or ask Ss to look at six people on page 11,12. - Call on a S to describe one person, the others have to guess who he/she is. S1: Yes. - Go on until six people on the poster are described. - If there is time , ask Ss to describe a famous person or one of their classmates and their friends have to guess.
