I'm ...... . I'm from Hong Thuy secondary school. I hope that you all have a great time this ……….. (Today) I am very honoured to be given this opportunity to share with you the importance of English and the methods to learn English effectively in the situation of international integration. First of all, I would like to tell you the importance of English. As you know, in today’s global world, the importance of English can not be denied because it is used as the only tool to break down existing language barriers among people of different races, cultures and nationalities. As an international language, English is spoken, read and written in many countries. How do we communicate with others in foreign countries who do not speak our mother tongue? The answer is using English because everyone knows at least a little English. In some countries, it is used as the mother tongue and in other countries, English is used as the second language. English is also taught as a compulsory foreign language at schools in some countries. Moreover, English is the leading language of international negotiation, commerce, science, technology, computer; the main language of most of international organizations, examinations and competitions like Miss World Contest; the official language of air transport, shipping and tourism; and the major medium of education, publishing and The Internet. Furthermore, if we know English well, we can read newspapers, magazines, reference books or listen to the radio in English to enlarge our knowledge and especially it’s easy to get a good job in a foreign company with a high salary. It is clear that English has become very dominant around the world and is our window to the world. If we don’t know English, we will leg behind the other. Studying English nowadays becomes an essential demand for everyone. Well, through my analysis above, we can partly know about what learning English brings in and now EL is one of our compulsory subjects at school so from now on, let’s invest your time in leraning English. Don’t hesitate anymore and do determine on learning English well. How to learn English effectively. In my opinion, every single person has her/his own ways to learn English. For me, I would like to recommend the following methods. Firstly, make sure you truly want to learn English. You have to find that the more desire you have, the faster you will be able to grasp the language. You will also need to decide what your goals will be and figure out what motivate you whether you simply want to improve your current learning, attend high schools, universities or get a good job. Your motivation will encourage you to learn English and setting real goals makes you work to achieve them. Secondly, in your class, pay attention to the lessons, don’t stare out of the window, don’t talk. Remember to take your textbook, notebook, pen or something like that. Thirdly, be sure to practise English every day. The more you practise your English skills, the better you will become at it. You can practise by learning new words or structures by heart; by doing your homework; by reading stories or newspapers in English; by writing diary, emails or letters; by listening to English songs, English news; by watching English movies; by playing games in English or even by taking time to speak to others who speak English. The next way is that you should surround yourself with English. Keep a notebook of words or new structures you have been taught. Take notes in English and stick notes around your house and you can use them to label things and stick one on your dog or cat!!! Write new words on a piece of paper, carry it with you. Speak English with your teachers and friends or with native speakers whenever you can. The more English materials that you have around you, the faster you will learn. Fifthly, get help! If you don’t understand something, ask your teachers, classmates or friends for help. Use a good dictionary. You can get yourself a qualified teacher or join an EL language center. Another good way is use the Internet. It’s full of recourses to help you learn. Last but not at least, the most natural way to learn EL is through speaking or communicating. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Be self-confident. Don’t let a little fear stop you from getting what you want. Well, I have just mentioned some effective ways to learn EL for your reference. Please remember: " Nothing is difficult to overcome, all is only to take pains to study". I hope your EL will be better soon. Well, that’s all my speech today. Thank you very much for your listening.
