Instructions:
Form a group of three or four students
Begin to work on the project from Monday 19/12/16
The report must not exceed 10 pages
All figures and tables should be clear
All references should be added to the report
The project (report and presentation) worth 20 marks (20% of the module
marks)
Each report/presentation should include a cover page with clear student
names
Date of the presentation: Friday 23/12/2016 (9:00 – 12:00)
Date of submission: 26/12/2016 (by email)

Project description
Almost all items we use in a daily basis are manufactured from one or more of the
engineering materials. You are required to select ONE product which should consist from at
least two parts. You will need to mention the reasons of your selection.
You should present useful information about the selected product including but not
limited to the uses(s) of this product, estimated price/cost, volume of production,
example of the manufacturers (national or international), etc.
Following to the product introduction, you will need to do the following:
Select a suitable material for each component of the product, justify your selection.
The information about the material part of this project should include the material’s
properties (mechanical, physical, etc.), price, applications, etc.
Suggest at least TWO manufacturing methods for each component/part considering
the material you already selected. The manufacturing process selection should be
based on suitability, economics, etc. You should also justify your selection.
If the part will be made in more than one manufacturing step (process), you should do
the previous point for all manufacturing steps and for all parts.
You should explain each manufacturing step in details and in relation to the product
you select (i.e. do not only present general diagrams/setup for the process you
selected, instead tailor the process to suit the component).
Useful information about each manufacturing step should include but not limited to:
reasons for this selection, applications, possible shapes to be produced, advantages
and disadvantages, cost estimation, setup and equipment, etc.
