These are the students who consequently complain, procrastinate, and get distracted more often than those who are always ready to write. When encouraged to begin the writing task, the first communicated reason for not doing anything is most often the familiar, “I can’t think of anything to write.” Well, those days are over! WHAT TO DO: 1. Print several copies of 1000 Quick Writing Ideas. 2. Hand them out to reluctant writers or to every student in the class. You may, want to create more permanent copies of these sheets that could then be re-used without making additional copies (saves paper). 3. Store the sheets in folders, binders, or duo tangs to prevent physical damage and keep them well organized and accessible (store all binders in one central area of classroom). It is not recommended that all 1000 ideas be handed out at once. Try 100 or 200 at a time. 4. Students highlight (if given a personal copy of sheets), collect, and make a list of topics of interest that could be used in personal writing, and record the selected topics at the front or back of their journal books. 5.
